Blood Donation Agreement

Family/replacement donors cannot meet a community`s blood and blood product requirements because they only provide blood to individual patients when asked. The blood given to patients is not necessarily replaced by a blood type or quantity. Hospitals that need replacement donors are rarely able to maintain a sufficient stock of blood to meet the transfusion needs of all their patients, especially in emergency situations or for regular transfusions, or to share their blood supply with other hospitals. When blood is collected from family or replacement donors in small hospital blood banks, it is not uncommon for the phenopturemia procedure to be performed by a laboratory technician, often because there are no other staff available. In order to protect donors and donated blood, blood should not be collected in environments where there are not enough staff with the necessary skills, training and experience to perform the procedure safely. Children are particularly vulnerable to blood shortages in malarian areas, as they are in high need for transfusions due to serious and life-threatening anaemia, often aggravated by malnutrition. In 2008, 109 countries were endemic for malaria, 45 in the WHO African region.

In 2006, an estimated 247 million malaria cases among 3.3 million people at risk, causing nearly one million deaths; 91% of malaria deaths were in Africa and 85% were children under 5 years of age.10 In countries where diagnosis and treatment are more limited, most transfusions are prescribed for the treatment of complications during pregnancy and childbirth, severe childhood anaemia, trauma and the management of congenital haemorrhagic diseases. For example, bleeding accounts for more than 25% of the 530,000 maternal deaths per year; 99% of them are in developing countries. Access to safe blood could help prevent up to a quarter of maternal deaths per year, and blood transfusion has been identified as one of eight vital functions that should be available in a first-level medical referral facility, which provides comprehensive obstetrics for emergencies and newborns.9 Discover our more than 100 free form integrations to automatically send your consent PDF to accounts you already use. Voluntary donors are considered the safest donors because they are motivated by altruism and a desire to help others and a sense of moral duty or social responsibility. They have no reason to withhold information about their lifestyle or medical condition, which may render them unfit to donate blood. They are not pressured by hospital staff, family members or the community to donate blood and entrust their blood donations to be used when needed and not for some patients. The only reward they receive is personal satisfaction, self-esteem and pride.
